A
DVD is secured by codes. Of course video stores don't
want you to make a copy of your DVD's. I'm sure you
have bought a DVD once, and you are very careful with
it, because it was expansive. If a DVD is damaged by
scratches or fingerprints, it won't play that good anymore.
So my advice is to backup your DVD, before it won't
play anymore. Copying your DVD is not that easy, they
are "encrypted by codes".
How
to remove that codes?
Well
there are programs that can decrypt the DVD's. (The
so-called rip programs)
What they do is, copying the files that are on your
DVD to your hard drive, and filtering of codes.
What if you don't decrypt the DVD's? Well If you try
to copy dvd files to your hard disk, nothings seems
to be wrong, but If you want to open the files in (powerdvd
or whatever) you will see the video is Green. The whole
image is messed up, and has no sound. So first rip your
DVD.
What
programs are available for ripping?
There
are several programs for ripping a DVD. But I'm only
going to explain the best of them. If you want to see
and try every program, then I suggest that you look
at "DIGITAL DIGEST DOWNLOAD SITE". (Under
links)
These
programs are downloadable at my site (but before you
download notice that not every dvd works for that program)
They
are easy to use, and they almost can handle every DVD.
All newer DVD's are better encrypted then the older
generations. Because they know that there are programs
like DECCS. (DECCS works perfectly with older generations
DVD's, but has trouble with the newer ones). You just
have to find yourself a program that will filter the
codes off the DVD.
How
do I know if my program didn't decrypt my DVD?
Your computer can stuck, so that you have
to restart (tip: switch program)
It will tell you: ERROR can't find the keys
(- or codes)
STEP
2 - How do I rip with these programs?
Before
you rip:
- Make sure you have a minimum
of 6 Giga Byte free disc space
- Check if you have a Icon on your
DVD that says PC-Friendly (because those types are can
only be ripped by Claddvd or Speedripper
- Check if your DVD has an A+B side.
If so, you have to rip the A side first, then FLASK
it, then rip the B site and FLASK that side. Unfortunately
you will get 2 files on your computer. (Those DVDs are
very rarely)
·.IFO
- This is a file to play the chapters of the movie in the
right order
·.VOB
- Contains image, sound and subtitles.
·You
first have to figure out which files are belonging to
the main movie
·You
can recognize these files because of their large amount
of space. Mostly around 1 Gig.
·If
you look at the picture above, you'll find the VTS_00,
VTS_00_01, VTS_00_02, etc. All those files together
+ IFO and BUP are belonging to the main movie.
·If
there are files on your DVD with the names VTS_02_00,
VTS_03_00, then these are files are belonging to the
extras of the DVD. (They mostly contain 200 MB data)
·If
you want to rip just the main movie, you'll have to
select only those files.
2= Selected a folder where you want to store your IFO, bup and vob
files. The next step is to push the decrypt files button.
This will take up to 45 minutes (It depends on the size)
DECCS
The
Interfaces of this program is working perfect with the
easy and simple DOS program. Let's find out how we can
rip with this program. As an Example I'll take the DVD
Bodyguard.
The
arrows show what you have to do first. YOU CAN'T USE
THIS PROGRAM IN WINDOWS 2000 or WINME. It's designed
for Win9X. If you have W2000 or WinME, use Claddvd,
or EasyVDGui
1= Speaks for it's self......... just select the folder
where you want to store your 4 - 8 Gig DVD on your Hard
drive.
2= you will find the following files on your DVD:
·.BUP
- The *.bup file is a index file of the dvd
·.IFO
- This is a file to play the chapters of the movie in the
right order
·.VOB
- Contains image, sound and subtitles.

3:
select a folder on your hard drive that contains enough
disk space.
4=
you will find the following files on your DVD:
·.BUP

5: Push the transfer button. But be
aware: for this screen:
Simply run your DVD-player and play the DVD for 2 seconds,
then close it.
Okay, that was it. Now wait until the Dvd is decrypted. Takes about 45
minutes.
Don't forget to push YES!
Instructions for Smartripper

and hit START
OK PEOPLE what comes next is only for the people who want
to rip the soundtrack of the DVD.
4= click
here if you only want to rip the Soundtrack!
Ok click on MOVIE, then choose for Stream Processing tab.
1= checkmark map to 0x80
2= checkmark the AC3 track (Audio) you want to
rip
3= where do you want you file to be stored to
Click on start if you are ready.
Ok after you have an AC3 file on you computer, you need to make a wav file
out of it.
But you need software for that first.
1= choose the AC3 file, that you just
decoded with Smartripper
2= Set destination directory
3= push start
Ok
people, this is where I stop explaining. You got yourself
a WAV file now. I'm sure you are that experienced that
you know how to edit a wav file and are able to create
mp3'z out of it. And burn it on a cd.
Converting to DIVX with FLASKMPEG
Now
that we ripped the DVD, here comes the next step CONVERTING,
but first download the software beneath:
OK,
now I have my vobfiles on my HD and downloaded all your
software, I need to convert it to Divx, HOW?
When you installed the software, open Flask. Go to FILE,
click on open DVD and select The IFO file (belonging
to your main movie files)
A menu like this wills popup. Choose your language et
Push on Flask this DVD when you
are ready.
Ok
people, just leave flask minimized for a
few minutes ok? You need to make a new step first.
I'm
going to teach you how to create a real good
quality Divx, but first I want you to take
a look at your DVD box. Search for the play length.
1-
here you can see the length of your DVD
2-
this symbol shows what region code the DVD has
3-
this shows you the resolution the DVD has.
region
1: 29.97 Frames per second (fps) Interlaced
region 2: 25 Frames per second (fps) De-interlaced
Now
that you know what the length of your DVD is, you have
to ask yourself the following question.
" Do I want my future Divx file to fit on 1 cd
and quality is medium" ?
Or
" Do I want a Perfect quality Divx file,
that requires 2 cd's" ?
Because
we are going to convert our ripped DVD to Divx, we need
to tell the divx plug in how many kilobits it can use
max/per minute.
Now
you probably think, what is he talking about now?
But please continue using my guide, its not that difficult.
Just
download my advanced Divx Bit rate Calculator.
Fill
the in the length Video (minutes) in the box where it
says 1.
Next make your decision in section 2 onhow many cd's you want to use for your
divx file.
Ok
almost done with the hardest part. Just remember how
many Kbit/s you need when you are going back to flask.
BACK IN FLASK
Ok,
now maximize Flask
Go to Options
Go to Select Output Format
Checkmark " AVI Output "
Go to Options again,
And click on Output Format Options
Menus like this will popup, and you have to click on Select Codec (plug
in) for Video first
Choose DIVX low motion, and click on configure
(note: if you can't find low motion, re-install Alpha
3.1, and restart your computer)
A menu will popup again, you have
to make the following changes:
Key frame every 1 second(That shows how long you have to wait till can RW or
FF your movie)
Smoothness 75%. (Use
the arrows on your keypad to adjust it).
(Note if you can't find Mpeg Layer-3, re-install MpRadium
3 again)
If you done it alright, the windows has to look like
this:
Guys we are almost there!!! Good
job if you made it so far.
Next go to Options
Global project options
Go to video section
Now
take a look at Time Base (fps)
- if you have region
1 use
29.97 fps "And" checkmark De-interlace at 3
-
If you have region 2 use 25 fps
2
Width 720 Height 576
(that is like 16:9 wide screen) 4
click on Show output
Pad, and a window will popup:
Look
at the black around 1 and 2.
That is going to take too much space, and has to be
cut away.
Checkmark Crop:
Click on - at Height a couple of times
Click on + at Top Offset to move the picture
up again
Cut off as many as possible
Then click on Hide
This one is simple just leave it like this.
Decode audio and keep it the same as the input.
The Audio Section:
Use HQ Bicubic Filtering
And keep aspect ratio
Post
Processing:
Simple, just select where you want to store your Divx file
Output
Files
Skip the general part, unless you want your computer to
shut down, after converting. Converting takes up to
10-15 hours. So my advice is to activate the process
if you are going to bed. When you wake up, it's finished!
Click ok:
Got to Run:
And click on start conversation (but before you do, close every program that is active)
(And it is normal that you get an error
the first time you use flask. (Click here)
1. This is how long it will take till the process is complete. (In the
beginning it shows you 35 hours remaining, but that
will drop downwards very soon. ok?
2. This is the input diagnostic
3. This is the output diagnostics
4. Set priority to HIGH
5. Don’t checkmark the display output, because that will only waste more
time.
FLASK - ERRORS
(If you get this error, download and install flaskfix)
(If you get this error: it means that you will have restart. or re-rip
your DVD
(This is the most common error - and everyone gets it when
using it the first time, so don't worry.
just go back to output options, and reset the
Audio Codec again to Mpeg Layer III 96 Kbit ok?)
